Year 5 have enjoyed a great couple of weeks! In English, we've been honing our persuasive skills, and what better way to bring our arguments to life than through drama? We've been exploring how to use our voices, gestures, and even facial expressions to really connect with our audience and make our points stick. Imagine a passionate plea for more PE, delivered with the conviction of a seasoned actor! It's been fantastic to see everyone grow in confidence and find their own powerful way to communicate. Over in maths, we've been turning our attention to the fascinating world of angles. We've become angle detectives, spotting them in shapes all around us and even using protractors to measure them with precision. It's been brilliant to see how understanding angles helps us make sense of the world around us, from the slopes of a slide to the corners of our classrooms. In science lessons, we've been diving into the intriguing topic of friction – the force that opposes motion when two surfaces rub together. We've conducted exciting experiments to see whether adding extra weight affects distance travelled and stopping distances. Understanding friction helps us explain why we can walk without sliding everywhere and how brakes on a bicycle work. Finally, in art we've been unleashing our creativity by designing and making clothing for mannequins. This has involved everything from sketching initial designs and choosing materials to carefully cutting, shaping, and assembling our creations. It's been a fantastic opportunity to explore different textures, colours, and styles, and to see our artistic visions take three-dimensional form. Our mannequins will certainly look stylish!
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be learning:
