What a busy and exciting few weeks it's been in Year 3! The children have been working incredibly hard across all their subjects, and I'm so impressed with their enthusiasm and progress.
In Maths, we've been diving deep into the world of fractions. It's been fantastic to see the children confidently adding and subtracting fractions, and even finding fractions of different numbers. We've used lots of practical resources to help solidify their understandingsuch as sharing counters.
Our Literacy lessons have transported us to the magical Athenian woods of A Midsummer Night's Dream. The children have shown wonderful creativity in their narrative writing, bringing the four human characters – Hermia, Lysander, Helena, and Demetrius – to life with their imaginative storylines. We've explored their tangled relationships and the mischievous interventions of the fairy world. I've been so impressed with their use of descriptive language and their understanding of character motivations.
The classroom has been buzzing with excitement during our Design and Technology sessions! The children have been using Lego Spike to design, build, and program their very own fairground rides. From simple swings to thrilling carousels, their ingenuity and problem-solving skills have been brilliant to witness. They've learned about motors, coding and debugging programs to make their creations move.
Finally, in History, we've embarked on a fascinating journey to Ancient Egypt. The children have been captivated by the powerful Egyptian gods and goddesses, learning about their roles and significance. We've also explored the vital importance of the River Nile to Egyptian civilization, understanding how it shaped their lives, agriculture, and beliefs. We even created our own Egyptian god, gave him/her a name, powers, and decided what they would have been responsible for.
Curie class has been taking part in a project this year about building their teamwork and how to be a team player. They listened to a story about animals working together and the language they needed to use, such as resistance and body language, they then took part in activities that were designed to foster these skills. The project was ran by Bumblewood and a teacher called Jayne. The children loved these lessons and have grown greatly in confidence in their ability to work together as a team.
In the next term, we will be learning:
Maths - The children will be looking lines and shapes
Writing - Our text will be "Mid Summer Night's Dream" and we will be investigating play scripts.
Science - Our Science topic that we are looking at in the next half term will be "Making connections: Does hand span affect grip strength?"
