What a wonderfully busy and imaginative fortnight it has been in Reception!
Last week, we dove into the thrilling world of 'The Gruffalo'! The children absolutely loved using our Gruffalo tuff trays to act out the story. We focused on early writing, thinking carefully about what each character said, and then writing speech bubbles to match. Everyone worked hard to practise holding their pencils correctly and using them to write some of the sounds we have learned. We also created some great art, collaging a magnificent Gruffalo and drawing the story's characters. In Maths, we learned a very clever skill called subitising—that's when you know how many you can see without needing to count them one by one!
This week, we explored the classic tale of 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'. We had three exciting Drawing Club lessons where we drew Goldilocks, the spooky forest, and a thank-you gift Goldilocks brought the bears. The children even wrote their own secret codes to make their drawings do all sorts of crazy, magical things! We focused on size language in the story (big, middle-sized, small) and used it to help us compare different objects in our classroom. We also had a great time planning and making a variety of junk models, using tape and glue to join different boxes and containers. Crucially, we have been talking about different feelings we might have and what makes us feel that way, focusing on kindness and gentleness towards others and understanding how our actions make other people feel.
