Year 6 have made an excellent start to the year and are already working so hard. Last week, we enjoyed sharing our holiday experiences and doing lots of art work. We were excited to begin our new class text, "Holes" and predict what might happen. When completing our class charters, we discussed our rights and duties in the classroom and decided upon our own responsibilities. We also voted for our class Read Aloud book (which we listen to every day) from reading different blurbs. We then had fun designing our own versions of the front cover. In DT, we looked at various food packages, focusing on the typography, with the aim of designing some food packaging of our own over the next couple of weeks.
There is a big push on reading now in Year 6 (as well as across the school) to really help improve stamina for reading. The children have really taken this on board, reading at school every day when they come in as well as at home, trying to achieve their reading target of the week.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be learning:
Maths - numbers up to 10,000,000 and BODMAS
Writing - the children will be writing a newspaper report
Reading - we will be looking at retrieval and inference questions
Geography - in our topic, Our Changing World, we will be looking at weathering
Science - in our topic, Animals Including Humans, we will be focusing on the circulatory system.
