Year 3 have been working extremely hard since coming back after the Summer holidays. In Maths we have started learning about place value with 3 digit numbers, we've been making 3 digit numbers using dienes as well as learning how to order these numbers. In English we have started reading Akimbo and the elephants, we've been working on describing an elephant to help us with writing our poems next week. In Science we have talked about a balanced diet and learning about the different food groups. In our Financial Education lessons we discussed what the children would buy if they had £20. The children had some fantastic responses and each class has these displayed within their classrooms on their trees. Within our Geography lessons we have looked at the Continent of Africa and looking at the different countries within it.
There is a big focus on reading now across the school to really help improve stamina for reading as well as encouraging children to read for pleasure. The children have been reading at school every day for early morning work as well as at home. Keep up the great work!
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be learning:
Maths - We are nearly at the end of our place value chapter, following this the children will be learning about adding 3 digit numbers using the column method.
Writing - Next week we will be writing our animal poems, we can't wait to see what the children produce!
Reading - In Reading we will be moving onto focusing on prediction questions. The children will be looking at the text they have read and deciding on what may happen next based on what has happened so far.
Geography - We will be looking at some of the different physical and human features within the continent of Africa.
Science - Using the knowledge we have learnt so far about the different food groups children will be designing a healthy lunch box and will explain their choices.
