In year 2, we have been learning:
Maths - the children have been recapping their place value with numbers to 100. They have been partitioning numbers into their tens and ones and then adding them back together.
Writing - we started by recapping our basic punctuation with the children finding missing capital letters and full stops and correcting the mistakes. This week we have looked at nouns and adjectives and used them to make noun phrases to describe objects.
Reading - in reading this week, the children have focused on decoding unfamiliar words and then discussing their meaning.
Geography - in our new topic, Our Wonderful World, the children have looked at the names of the different continents and oceans.
Science - in our topic Materials, the children have looked at which materials are most suitable for certain tasks.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be learning:
Maths - we will be finishing up our place value chapter and then starting to look at addition and subtraction to 100.
Writing - the children will be reading a new book, Tiddalick, the Greedy Frog which is an Aboriginal story. The children will act it out and retell it in their own words.
Reading - we will continue to focus on our decoding skills to ensure the children are as fluent as possible when reading new or unfamiliar words.
Geography - in our topic, Our Wonderful World, the children will be looking at each continent in a bit more detail and finding out what makes it special.
Science - in our topic Materials, the children will be looking at natural and man-made materials and then investigating the effects heat has on materials.
