Year 4 have been very busy over the past few weeks learning lots of different things!
In maths, we have been consolidating our knowledge about finding the area of squares and rectangles. We have then moved onto looking at angles and identifying different types of angles. We know that angles smaller than 90 degrees are called acute angles and angles larger than 90 degrees are called obtuse angles. This is something that is key fact for us to remember for the future.
In writing, we have been working towards writing a non-chronological report about Indonesia. We have looked at different research skills to help us to pick out the key information. Next week, we will be planning and writing our non-chronological report using all of the research that we have found out.
In history, we have been looking at the Vikings to help us to understand whether they are raiders, traders or settlers. We have been using primary and secondary sources to help us to find out information about the past.
In science, we have been learning about the human body and looking at our teeth. We made models of our teeth and learnt about the different functions of each tooth.
In art, we have been trying out different drawing techniques including backwards and forward sketching and straight line drawing. This is helping us to understand how artists create different textures in their drawing. We have also been sketching and then painting tins of food using water colours, ready for an art installation next week. We have a lot of very keen artists in year 4!
Reminder:
There is a meeting for any children going to High Ashurst on Thursday 9th May at 6:30pm in the school hall.
If possible, please could we ask that children do not attend. They will have their own meeting in school to tell them about the trip nearer to the time.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be learning:
Maths - Continuing our work on angles.
Writing - Writing our non-chronological report.
History - Continuing our work about Vikings.
Science - We are looking at the human body.
Art - we will be continuing at looking at drawing techniques
