In Phonics Nursery have been looking at the letters 'w' and 'y' and learning about words that begin with that sound, such as 'wave', 'wig', 'yellow' and 'yo-yo'. In Maths we have been looking at patterns in our environment and continuing to work on our counting skills.
Our focus books have been 'Planting a rainbow' by Lois Ehlert and 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' by Eric Carle. The children enjoyed painting their own rainbows and making flowers out of cake cases and strips of paper. They also used sponges to paint caterpillars and used their fine motor skills to thread green and red paper to make a caterpillar.
Over the past few weeks we have enjoyed learning the Makaton signs for 'flower', 'caterpillar' and 'butterfly'. The children also enjoyed singing the song 'I can sing a rainbow' and tried really hard to learn the signs for the different colours mentioned in the song: red, yellow, pink, green, purple, orange and blue!
We have continued to enjoy planting seeds in the Nursery garden and have been learning about the different parts of plants, such as roots, leaves and flowers and how they help the plant.Â
