What a fantastic time we had at our Year 3 sleepover! The children were absolute stars, and we packed so much learning and fun into our evening. Beyond the giggles and late-night chats, our brave adventurers learned some incredibly important skills. During their workshop with St Johns Ambulance volunteers, they now know how to confidently make a 999 call in an emergency, understand the best way to deal with a nosebleed, and even practiced bandaging a cut like mini-medics! It was brilliant to see them learning what to do to get help if they find someone who is hurt. These are life skills we hope they never need to use, but it's vital they have this knowledge.
Back in the classroom, our brains have been busy exploring the fascinating world of fractions. The children have been working hard to understand what fractions represent and how to find a fraction of a given number. Get ready for some fraction fun at home – perhaps they can help you divide up a pizza or share out some treats!
Our young chefs carefully peeled their vegetables, preparing toppings like peppers and tomatoes. More importantly, they focused on using a knife safely to chop their ingredients. We had lots of discussions about the correct grip, how to keep their fingers tucked away, and the importance of slow and controlled movements. It was brilliant to see how responsible and careful they were, taking real pride in handling their tools safely.
Once the toppings were prepped, the creativity really flowed! Each child designed their own pizza, spreading tomato sauce and arranging their chosen ingredients before we popped them in the oven. The aroma that filled the classroom was incredible! This was a wonderful way to combine practical skills with a fun and rewarding activity. We definitely have some budding chefs in Year 3!
Finally, the magic of A Midsummer Night's Dream has truly captured their imaginations. We've been transported to a world of fairies, mischievous sprites, and tangled love stories. Their enthusiasm for the play has been wonderful to see, and we've had some fantastic discussions about the characters and the plot.
In the next term, we will be learning:
Maths - The children will be looking fractions
Writing - Our text will be "Mid Summer Night's Dream" and we will be investigating play scripts.
Science - Our Science topic that we are looking at in the next half term will be "Plant reproduction"
