What a vibrant start to the summer term it has been in Reception! Our exciting "Growing" topic has already sprouted much curiosity and learning. Last week, we delved into the non-fiction book 'How Does a Butterfly Grow?' The children were absolutely thrilled to welcome their very own caterpillars into the classroom, and we are all looking forward to carefully observing their amazing transformation over the coming weeks. Following our reading, the children enthusiastically shared the interesting facts they learned and even had a go at writing their own informative butterfly sentences. In Maths, we revisited our understanding of odd and even numbers, reinforcing this key concept through practical activities. Our Science exploration took us into the garden as we began to identify and learn about the different parts of a plant.
This week, our literary focus shifted to the delightful book 'Whose Baby?'. Inspired by this, the children put on their creative thinking caps and devised their own engaging guessing games. They wrote descriptive sentences about a baby animal, providing clues for their friends to try and identify the matching adult. In Maths this week, alongside our number work, the children have been practising the skill of ordering three numbers, using a variety of resources to support their understanding of sequence and value. Our scientific investigations into the plant world continued, culminating in the creation of scientific drawings where the children expertly labelled each part of a plant. It has been a busy and productive fortnight, filled with wonder and discovery, and we are excited to see what the rest of the "Growing" topic will bring!
