The children in Year 6 have had another two fantastic weeks of learning and have impressed us with their enthusiasm and hard work!
We've dived even deeper into the world of "Holes" and have now finished writing our brilliant newspaper reports based on Stanley stealing the shoes. The children had a wonderful time becoming journalists and publishers, using Canva to professionally lay out their articles. They even got to be tech-wizards, using AI to generate the perfect images to accompany their reports!
Our marvellous mathematicians have been tackling some huge numbers! They have been mastering the skill of rounding numbers all the way up to 1,000,000. We've also started to look at the order of operations, which is a crucial skill for solving more complex problems. Itโs like learning the secret code to unlock any maths puzzle!
Our exploration of classification has continued with a focus on vertebrates. Last week, we created amazing fact files all about fish, reptiles, and amphibians. This week, we channelled our inner documentary makers and pretended to be David Attenborough, narrating fascinating nature videos about different birds. The performances were truly captivating!
We've journeyed back in time to the world of the Ancient Maya. We have been so impressed with the fantastic homework inspired by our look into how the Maya built their homes:
This week, we delved into the Ancient Maya culture, exploring the fascinating Maya creation story and learning all about their many different gods and goddesses.
In RE, we have continued our thoughtful discussions about commitment. We have been looking at the different ways Muslims show commitment to their faith and have also had some wonderful conversations reflecting on the things the children are committed to in their own lives.
Creativity has been flowing in our new art project! The children have become designers of food packaging. We started by analysing lots of real-world examples to see what makes a design eye-catching and effective. Now, they have begun creating their very own packaging designs, thinking carefully about who their target audience is and how to appeal to them. We can't wait to see the finished products!
