Year 2 are adjusting to their new year and new routines and working well.
We have explored two books over the last fortnight, the Australian traditional tale Tiddlilick and The Day The Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt. We role-played the story of Tiddlick the greedy frog and took a role as one of the animals. This helped us to sequence the story before we retold it. We focused on using adverbials of time in our sentences. This week we have used the story, The Day The Crayons Quit, to write a riddle, starting with the hardest clue and using information we found in the book to help us write clues.
Reading
In Maths, we have been focusing on the structure of two digit number from 20 to 99. We have been looking at various ways to show the structure of the numbers as groups of ten and groups of ones.
In Science, we have classified items as alive, was alive and never alive using the features of living things. We also explored Ocean , Rainforest, Woodland and Coastal habitats and discovered the features of these habitats and the animals and plants that live there.
We have continued with our topic, Would you rather be in a hot place or a cold place? We have located the North and South Poles on a map and discovered similarities and differences between the two locations. We have also Looked for similarities and differences in life in the UK compared with life in Kenya. We explored the animals that live in these places, the climate, buildings and land type.
Art
We have continued our topic on line drawing by foraging in the school grounds for natural objects to create a collection of objects which we then arranged and drew in our sketchbooks. We found an array of interesting objects and worked creatively to show the interesting shapes and colours in them.
