Dear Parents and Carers,
What a fantastic couple of weeks we have had! Our classroom has been buzzing with energy and enthusiasm as the children have dived into some exciting new topics. We've been so impressed by their hard work and are thrilled to share what we've been learning.
In English, we have been continuing to use Lynne Cherry's beautiful book, "The Great Kapok Tree", as a springboard for our writing. We’ve been focusing on setting descriptions and, in particular, using personification to bring the rainforest to life. The children have been writing about a sun "peeking" through the leaves or a tree "whispering" secrets, using their imaginations to give human qualities to natural objects.
In our Reading lessons , we have been continuing to read "James and the Giant Peach". We have used this book to develop our prediction and inference skills. The children are loving the fantastical elements and are becoming excellent literary detectives, using clues from the text to guess what will happen next and understand the characters' thoughts and feelings.
Our mathematical focus has shifted to a new unit on addition with renaming. The children are now tackling four-digit numbers. We've been using a variety of methods to support this, including place value charts and concrete manipulatives, to help them understand the process of carrying over numbers. They’ve been working hard and are already showing a great grasp of this key concept.
In Science, we've become dental detectives, investigating different types of teeth and their uses. We've learned about the function of incisors, canines, and molars, and how they are adapted for different purposes. The children have been fascinated by how the teeth of carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores are specially designed for their diets.
In our Geography lessons, we have been discussing the causes and consequences of deforestation and the wider impact on the planet. The children have shown great empathy and concern for the people and animals that live there, and we've had some thoughtful discussions about the importance of protecting this vital natural resource.
We are so proud of the children's hard work and engagement over these past two weeks. They've approached every task with enthusiasm and a fantastic attitude.
Thank you for your continued support.
