Our class has been completely captivated by 'Peace at Last', the wonderful tale of Mr. Bear's desperate search for a quiet place to sleep. He really does sleep everywhere! The children have loved diving into this story by:
Retelling it with all the brilliant repeated phrases.
Acting it out—we have some brilliant actors in the making!
Using our digital skills on Seesaw to order the story pictures and even record their own voices telling the story. They are mastering technology and literacy all at once!
In Maths, we've been on a mammoth mission learning all about size and weight! We asked some very important questions, like: "Is an elephant heavier than a mouse? And how do we really know?"
We've explored this by:
Using balance scales—a very popular activity!
Making predictions about what is heavier or lighter. The children's reasoning is getting so much sharper!
Our little learners are working on a huge skill in Computing: logging in! It takes a lot of focus to find the right keys, but they are tackling it like true digital pioneers.
Top tip for home: A little practice finding letters on a keyboard (even a spare one, or just a picture of one!) at home would be a massive help!
RE: We've continued our fascinating journey learning about Christianity and the wonderful story of how God created the world in seven days.
Science: We've been busy discussing the magnificent four seasons! We talked about what each one looks and feels like, and, of course, debated which one is our absolute favourite and why!
Emerald Class had an amazing time at Forest School this week! They got creative and used the brilliant bounty of nature to make wonderful conker necklaces. We love seeing their imagination thrive outdoors!
Year 1 has been truly amazing and so much fun! To keep this brilliant progress going:
Reading is Key! Please remember our target of reading with your child a minimum of 3 times a week and logging it in their reading diary. It makes such a difference!
Spelling Practice: Don't forget to practice those phonics spellings we sent home. Regular, short practice is the most effective way to help them stick!
We can't wait to see all the exciting learning and fun the next two weeks will bring!
Best wishes,
The Year 1 Team!
