Year Five have continued to impress their teachers with their hard work and enthusiasm for learning. See below for what this has looked like in some of the different curriculum areas.
Maths
We have been developing a sense of number, specifically focusing on rounding to the nearest 10,000 and 100,000. We encourage all children to consolidate this learning at home by completing the assigned tasks on Century.
English
Our English lessons have seen Year Five transform into intrepid journalists! We have been writing captivating newspaper reports about the mysterious disappearance of Salim from the "London Eye Mystery." The children have worked very hard to include correctly punctuated direct speech and relative clauses in their writing. Why not ask your child if they can remember any relative pronouns?
Science
In Science, it's been all about hands-on investigation and observation! The children have been exploring how to separate mixtures using various techniques such as sieving and filtration. It's safe to say things have got a little messy in Onyx and Moonstone classes as they put their scientific skills to the test!
Computing
Online safety has been a key topic in our recent computing lessons. The children have engaged in important discussions about staying safe in the digital world, including discussing online friendships and when not to disclose personal information.
Languages
We've been embracing European languages with enthusiasm! In addition to our regular Spanish curriculum, Year Five have also been learning to count to ten in Romanian. Ask your child to show you their impressive new language skills!
As well as our academic priorities, developing the 'whole child' is something we are very passionate about at Brookfield. We offer many enrichment opportunities including the Year Five residential to Devon. We would like as many children to join us, on the trip, as possible and know they will thoroughly enjoy the outdoor adventurous activies provided. This is a great chance to develop personal skills such as independence, resilience and teamwork as well as making lasting memories with their friends. If you haven't already signed your child up, please do before the end of September deadline.
