NURSERY
NURSERY
What a busy and exciting week we've had in Nursery! Our garden is growing beautifully, and the children have been fantastic little gardeners. They've been carefully watering the flowers, making sure they get plenty of sunshine, and watching them grow taller each day.
With the warmer weather arriving, we've loved spending time in our outdoor classroom. Reading stories in the teepee under the sun has been a real treat! The mud kitchen has been a hive of activity too, with our budding chefs creating all sorts of delicious (muddy!) meals. We've seen mud pies, mud pizzas, and even flower-topped mud cakes! It's been wonderful watching the children work together and use their imaginations.
As part of our growing topic, we also explored fruits and vegetables. After a class vote on our favorite fruits, we had a tasty fruit-tasting session and made our own yummy fruit kebabs.
We've also been strengthening our hand muscles with our weekly Dough Disco sessions. Squishing, rolling, and manipulating playdough helps us develop our fine motor skills, which are so important for writing and other activities. In maths, we've been practicing our counting skills with fun games and activities, even counting while we move!
Our class story this week was "The Cautious Caterpillar," and we've had lots of fun with caterpillar-themed activities. We've made caterpillar mosaics, painted hand print caterpillars, and learned all about how caterpillars turn into beautiful butterflies. It's been a wonderful week of learning and play!
Finally, a big thank you to everyone for helping the children transition to wearing slippers indoors. The children have been doing a great job wearing their slippers indoors. It makes our classroom feel cozy and helps us learn in a relaxed and happy environment.
We are looking forward to the last few weeks of term and hope for lots more sunny days outside!
Thank you for your continued support. We're so proud of all the children's progress and enthusiasm.
RECEPTION
It's been another wonderful two weeks filled with learning and laughter in Reception! Our "growing" theme has blossomed as we explored what plants need to thrive. Our budding gardeners enthusiastically planted cress seeds, learning how to nurture them. We also delved into the fascinating life cycle of a frog after reading "Wibbly," transforming ourselves from frogspawn to tadpoles to froglets through energetic movements and dance.
In Maths, we've been doubling our understanding! We started with dominoes and then created beautiful double butterflies to demonstrate our newfound skills. This week, we've begun exploring odd and even numbers with the help of Numberblocks, learning about "odd tops" and "even tops." To complement our growing topic, we've been encouraging healthy eating by trying various vegetables like carrots, peas, and broccoli during lunchtime.
Last week, we celebrated Science Week with the theme "Change and Adapt." Our creative learners designed and built their own unique animals from recycled materials. We also discovered the journey of carrots from farm to fork and conducted an exciting experiment to see if leftover vegetable parts could sprout new leaves.
We had a fantastic St. Patrick's Day celebration on Monday! The children learned about the history and meaning of the holiday, followed by a fun-filled day of crafting leprechaun hats, shamrocks, and vibrant rainbow pictures.
Our new role-play areas have been a huge hit, especially the garden centre in our outdoor classroom. The children have been thoroughly enjoying imaginative play, taking on the roles of customers and shopkeepers.
We're looking forward to more exciting adventures in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for our next newsletter to see what we get up to!
