Dear Parents and Carers,
We have continued to work hard these last two weeks in Year 5!
Writing
Over the last couple of weeks, we wrote and published our instructions on how to survive on a desert island. We have also read a lot more of Kensuke's Kingdom and have enjoyed finding out more about the character of Kensuke and his background. We have been looking at finding evidence in a text to support our ideas about him.
Maths
We have now finished our topic of multiplication and have now been solving word problems using all four operations. We have found these tricky but have persevered and used different methods to help us solve them, such as using a bar model.
Science
In Science we have been looking at the properties of different materials, grouping them by their conductivity, translucency and how hard or soft they are. This week we recapped states of matter and looked at reversible and irreversible changes.
Design and Technology
We have continued to make our pop-up books. We are thinking carefully how to make the books eyecatching and appropriate for younger pupils.
Reading Diaries
We would like to remind you that all children should be reading at least 5 times a week. Reading more together is incredibly beneficial and it will help the children in school, especially in their English lessons!
