Year 5 have had a brilliant few weeks filled with learning!
In maths, we have been working on our fractions topic! We have completed a range of questions on fractions including adding, subtracting and multiplying fractions! Some of these concepts have involved some tricky steps to work through and the children have really persevered and used their problem solving skills to deepen their understanding in this topic. We have used a website called 'polypad' to support our learning and represent the fractions pictorially to secure our understanding. Have a look at some of our fractions challenges below!
We have continued reading our class book 'The Last Bear' in English and have been working on a non-chronological report on Narwhals! The children were able to understand the features of a non-chronological report and complete research into the animals and find out a range of fatcs to include in their writing. Then, we followed this up by planning our non-chronological report, thinking carefully about the specific features we wanted to include, such as fronted adverbials. These reports are fantastically detailed and have showcased the progress the children have been making in their writing.
In Science, we have continued our work on materials! Over the two weeks, we have been looking into how we can separate materials. First, the children research how to seaparate materials using magnets, filtration and distillation. Then, we completed a class experiment on the different materials each method would work for. The children were immersed in their learning and able to use a range of scientific vocabulary to support their enquiry.
Whilst looking at our 'Gods and Mortals' topic in humanities, we looked into the battle of Marathon! We were able to recreate the story by creating a set of freeze frames for the main events! From this, we were able to summarise each event that took place.
Well done for all your amazing work year 5!
