Year 4 have been very busy the last two weeks and have shown some amazing skills and learning.
In Writing, we have been writing informal letters as Arthur, the hero of Arthur and the Golden Rope. We described our magical journey, meeting mythical creatures and tricking Fenrir, the mythical wolf, to save our villages. This week, we have been researching mythical creatures and creating our own Top Trumps cards that feature a detailed description of the creature and our own scoring system to show how brave, wise, strong and ferocious it is and the all important Top Trump rating. In Reading, we have been practising using our skills to summarise and infer from the text.
In Maths, we have finished our Graphs topic and have begun extending our knowledge of fractions. We have explored hundredths, creating and simplifying mixed numbers and simplifying improper fractions. We are moving onto adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator. In Science, we have continued learning about sound. We have explored using musical instruments to demonstrate changes in amplitude and frequency and what these changes look like as sound waves.
In Humanities, we have explored the life of King Alfred, the king of Wessex and explored if he deserved the title, Alfred the Great. We discussed the ways he changed life in Britain, such as being the only king to hold back the Vikings from his kingdom and having books translated into Old English from Latin so more people could read them. We also discussed how the main written biography of him was written by one of his closest friends so potentially biased. This week we have discovered the features of an Anglo-Saxon village and what their houses were made from. We also explored the jobs that were common at this time.
In RE, we have begun to think of places that are special to us and why they are special. We have also thought about the events that happen in churches that make them special to Christians. We particularly thought about Baptism, Communion and Worship in Church. In DT, we have planned and are beginning to make our mini golf swing games. We are enjoying making our plans a reality and will be finishing these next week.
