Year 2 have been working really hard these last two weeks.
In Maths, we have learned how to measure length and mass. Children have used scales and weights to weigh and compare the mass of different objects. They can confidently say which items can be weighed in kg or g and they can use the symbols < > = to say which object is heavier or lighter than the other one.
In English we have been exploring the features of a persuasive letter, and using the book 'The Journey Home', we have reflected on the dangers of climate change and what we could do to help our planet. We have written our own letter to our principal expressing our concerns and given ideas to do our bit for the environment.
In Humanities we explored the lives of Ellen McArthur, Roald Amundsen and Neil Armstrong through hot seating and NowPressPlay. It was really fun and very exciting to put ourselves in the shoes of these famous explorers. In RE we had a Tai Chi session which made us feel very calm and peaceful. Tai Chi is practised by followers of Taoism to create balance with Tao and decrease stress.
Please ensure your child reads to an adult every day who will then write a comment in their diary. After our reading sessions, we will continue sending home the book children have read with us. Your child should read this book every day to increase fluency and help with their comprehension skills. Reading is an important part of the curriculum as children need to read instructions and information independently in all subjects.
