In Year 6, we have been enjoying lots of new topics.
Writing:
In our writing lessons we have been reading a book called 'Holes' and this week, we wrote our own newspaper articles about the main character, Stanley, who has been accused of stealing some trainers from a charity.
Maths:
In maths, we have been focused on rounding numbers and watched a video called 'rounding rap' which helped us to do this easily.
Science:
In Science we have been learning all about the heart, lungs and the circulatory system. During our lesson we labelled a diagram of a heart and found out that veins and arteries are actually colourless!
Geography:
In geography this week we have learnt about the three types of weathering - physical weathering, chemical weathering and biological weathering. The physical weathering is when water freezes inside rocks and cracks them, chemical weathering describes the effect of chemicals in rain water making changes to the minerals in a rock. The biological weathering is when movements are caused by living organisms.
Now that we are in Year 6, we have also started to complete homework to prepare for secondary school. When we get homework, it is for us to learn and it is very important to do it so that we can get better and improve.
Year 6 were very lucky and had a great morning watching Mr Dilly's Virtual Author event and listened to a range of authors including: Hannah Gold, Aisling Folwer, Sinead O'Hart, James Burks and AF Harrold. The children thoroughly enjoyed listening to famous authors and how they could use some of their ideas to inspire their own writing.
Some of our year 6 were also lucky enough to go to ...........
Children are expected to complete the following:
5 reads in their reading diary each week
Complete one task from the homwrok grid each week
In total, year 6 should spend between 1hour - 1hour and a half in their homework each week.
If your child needs any help with their homework, children can attend homework club on a Monday or speak to their class teacher for support.
