Welcome to Year 4!
We have had a busy first couple of weeks back at school, everyone has shown resilience throughout the start of term throughout all of our subjects.
In Maths, we have been learning about the patterns between counting in 10's, 100's, 25's, 50's and even 500. We have revisited the significance of place value during our maths lessons also. Over the last week we have began learning how to round numbers up and down to the nearest 10,100 and 1000. We mostly enjoyed playing games with the dice to make various numbers and identifying what number they would round to .
In English, we have been studying the book 'Escape from Pompeii,' the children began the term creating expanded noun phrases in order to write a poem about a volcanic eruption. The children were keen to learn more about Pompeii, we discovered that many people may have been suffocated with ash and pumice before dying after the eruption. As the weeks have progressed we have began focusing on what it would feel like to be present at a volcanic eruption, we planned the description of the volcanic eruption after taking part in sessions where we immersed ourselves into the virtual reality of a volcanic explosion.
We greatly enjoyed creating our artistic notes as part of our art lessons, having drawn inspiration from the illustrator Laura Collins. As well as this, we too have created drawings that could be used to tell a story. Before creating such images we used various mediums to suggest ideas that could be used, one of these was the poem 'I Wonder.'
As part of our History and Georgraphy topic, we have been learning about the Romans and how they invaded Great Britain. We researched how the Celts differed from the Romans and why it took the Romans many attempts to defeat the Celts. The children reenacted freeze frames for how the Romans would have fought against the Celts.
As part of our Religious education, we have been learning about Judaism and the connection Jews have with God. The week commencing 2nd October, we will be comparing Sukkot to the Harvest celebration. We ask that each child bring in a small box approximately shoe size please, for a project we are going to complete.
Thank you for your continued support and as always if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
