What an amazing start to Year 1. We are really proud of the children who have settled in so well to the Y1 new routines. We are still trying to mix plenty of play-based activities into our day but are gradually spending more time working as a whole class rather than calling groups at a time to complete activities. The children have been extremely busy!
In literacy, we are enjoying the story 'Teddy Bear's Picnic' and are looking forward to having our Teddy bears visit at the end of the week! The children have been playing with the bears and a picnic set to prepare for the real event. They have made lists of picnic foods and written their invitations!
We have started our Maths No Problem books and each lesson starts with the number of the day. We sing counting songs (google Jack Heartman) and have been exploring numbers to 10.
Our Art topic is called spirals. It's a new topic for Year 1 this year and so far it has been great fun! We especially liked drawing massive spirals with the graphite sticks. At the end of each lesson, the children walk around looking at each other's creations. We try to talk like an artist whilst we make observations about control, use of space, colours etc.
Thank you to all of you who attended the Curriculum meeting on Tuesday. Slides for the meeting have been shared but if you have any further questions please ask us as you drop off or collect your child.
A gentle reminder to complete the permission and lunch requests for our Ecology Centre trip and pay on Arbor. It will be a wonderful experience for your child!
