What a brilliant start year 5 have had! We have taken part in a lot of brilliant work already!
In English, we habe started reading the text 'London Eye Mystery'. In this story, a boy called Salim goes missing on the London Eye and his cousin, Ted tries to solve the mystery! To start off our English, we explored the new characters in the book and completed some role play as the characters Kat and Ted. We then wrote a diary entry to inform how Ted was feeling about Salim visiting. See one of our fantastic pieces below!
In maths, we have already recapped and covered a range of topics! The children have looked at place value and the different values for each place value collumn up to one million. Once we had looked at the specific columns, the children started to compare and order numbers. We have been focusing on our problem solving and reasoning skills in our challenges to deepen our understanding in these subjects!
We have started our new 'Dynamic Dynasties' history topic looking at the history of China. So far, we have taken a dive into the different Chinese dynasties, their lengths and the major events that happened during these times. The children then created a timeline putting the dynasties into chronological order.
In RE, we have celebrated the Hindu festival 'Raksha Bandhan'. The children had an assembly to explore the reasoning behind the festival and what children do to celebrate it. The children then created a poster to discuss the different ways people may celebrate Raksha Bandhan and how they show respect and love to people in their lives.
PE has been grear so far and we have been focusing on our cognitive skills. The children have been taking part in the bean bag game, thinking of a range of strategies they can implement to improve their game play and be a successful team!
Well done for a fantastic few weeks back year 5!
