What a busy few weeks year 3 have had!
In English, Year 3 have embarked on a mission to tackle the pressing issue of plastic pollution! As part of their persuasive writing unit, they've transformed into passionate environmental advocates, determined to make a difference. Their journey began with in-depth research, delving into the causes and devastating impact of plastic pollution on our planet. Armed with this knowledge, they're now crafting compelling letters to none other than the Prime Minister, urging action to combat this global challenge. We cannot wait to read these persuasive letters next week. We're confident that the Prime Minister will be impressed by the children's understanding, commitment, and persuasive voices!
In maths, Year 3 have taken their multiplication and division skills to the next level! This week, they bravely tackled the world of word problems, applying their knowledge to solve real-life scenarios. To crack these challenging puzzles, our young mathematicians employed ingenious strategies. From hands-on manipulatives like counters and blocks to colourful diagrams and sketches, they brought each problem to life in a visual way. This creative approach not only deepened their understanding but also fostered problem-solving skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom. We're incredibly proud of their determination and resourcefulness as they navigate the exciting world of mathematical reasoning!
Year 3's science lessons have been buzzing with excitement as we delve into the fascinating world of magnets! This week, our young scientists explored the fundamental principles of magnetism, uncovering the secrets behind this invisible force. But the real highlight was a hands-on investigation that transformed the classroom into a laboratory of discovery! Equipped with magnets and a variety of materials, the children eagerly tested and observed, determining which objects were drawn to the magnetic pull. Their enthusiasm and engagement were truly inspiring as they meticulously recorded their findings and shared their observations. This captivating exploration sparked curiosity and ignited a passion for scientific inquiry, reminding us all of the wonders that can be found in the simplest of things.
Our geographical adventures have taken Year 3 to soaring new heights as we explore the majestic world of mountains! Building on their atlas skills, the children embarked on a global expedition, pinpointing famous mountain ranges using land height keys. Their expertise is truly impressive! This week, we focused on volcanoes. From towering composite volcanoes to gently sloping shield volcanoes, the children delved into the fascinating geological processes that shape these natural wonders. They even demonstrated their impressive knowledge by accurately labelling the different features of a volcano, from the magma chamber deep beneath the Earth's surface to the fiery crater at its peak. This exciting journey through the world's mountain ranges has ignited a passion for geography and a deeper appreciation for the awe-inspiring power of nature.
Children are expected to complete the following:
At least 5 reads in their reading diary each week
Century is here! A piece of maths and English homework will be set every Thursday with a due date of the following Monday. The homework will appear at the bottom under 'assignments'. The pathway at the top is suggested additional work that can be worked through as and when but is not an expectation to be completed.
Times table rock stars does not have to be completed daily, but it is encouraged to practise as much as possible.
Children are not expected to do Century and Times Table Rockstars every evening at home, but little and often is ideal! Thank you for your support :)
Please note, the inside of the reading diaries have changed. There are dates on each page and a 'homework' section on the left hand side but please ignore these. Please see the image below of how to insert the reads into the new reading diaries.
