What a great few weeks we have had in year 6.
In maths we have tackled some extremely tricky tropics. From multiples and factors to simplifying fractions. It has been great to see all of the year group applying themselves. They have made links between highest common factions and simplifying fractions and it has been great to see children applying their prior knowledge to new learning.
Year 6 have worked extremely hard in writing over the last few weeks. They have spent their time re writing chapter 14 and 15 of our year group novel 'Holes'. They are really proud of what they have achieved. Continuously challenging themselves by including the year 6 success criteria; speech to convey character, relative pronouns, parenthesis and sentence structure.
In geography, the children have been exploring different boundaries and boarders of different countries. They were tasked with creating flip grids explaining how England is the way it is today. They worked in pairs and created some fantastic videos. Ask your children to show you at home!
In PE, the children have continued focusing on the cognitive cog within our REAL PE scheme. The children have been developing their ability to use their awareness of space and others during dodgeball matches.
As it is Black History Month, year 6 have been looking at influential Black Women,. They thoroughly enjoyed researching why they were famous and what impact they have on today's society.
The children have worked extremely hard this half term, both within school and at home when completing homework tasks, reading regularly and practising their timetables.
There will be no homework over the October half term, but please ensure your child is recording their daily reads in their diaries. We would like to see at least 8 reads.
Have a great October half term and we look forward to welcoming back year 6 on Tuesday 31st October, remembering it is 'Spooky Mufti'!
Children are expected to complete the following:
5 reads in their reading diary each week
Complete one task from the homework grid each week
In total, year 6 should spend between 1hour - 1hour and a half in their homework each week.
If your child needs any help with their homework, children can attend homework club on a Monday or speak to their class teacher for support.
