What a great first half term year 3 have had! They have all produced some wonderful work and deserve a well earned rest!
In maths, we have continued with the topic of addition and subtraction. Over the last 2 weeks, we have focus primarily on subtractions, especially when renaming the tens or hundreds. Although this is a tricky method to learn, the children have showed a great understanding of this. We have worked through the method step by step each time and now everyone can explain how to complete the method and why we need to do the renaming.
We have come to the end of reading our writing text 'Akimbo and the elephants', which we have all thoroughly enjoyed. To consolidate our learning, we wrote a non-chronological report all about elephants. Year 3 have shown a good understanding of what a non-chronological report is and were all able to write theirs with the correct structure. Please have a look below at some of our reports about elephants.
In science, we have now finished our learning about the human body. We ended our learning by exploring the different bones that make up the skeleton as well as the muscles in the arm. We explored how the muscles contract and relax when we bend our forearm. Even though this was a complex concept to understand, the children showed a good understanding of how this works and could explain what would happen if the muscles didn't work.
We have also come to the end of our humanities topic 'Amazing Africa'. This has been a very interesting topic to explore! Throughout the last few weeks, we have looked at a tribe from Kenya called the Maasai tribe. We researched what this tribe was, who was part of it, how many people are in it and what it stands for. During African Day, we used our knowledge of the tribe to create our own Massai necklaces. We also imagined that we were on an African Safari in Botswana using the NowPressPlay headsets - what an immersive experience!
From the year 3 team, we wish you all a restful and relaxing half term! We will see you all on Tuesday 31st October in spooooooky mufti!
Children are expected to complete the following:
At least 5 reads in their reading diary each week
Centuary is now live! A piece of maths and English homework will be set every Thursday with a due date of the following Monday. The homework will appear at teh bottom under 'assignments'. The pathway at the top is suggested additional work that can be worked through as and when but is not an expectation to be completed.
Times table rock stars does not have to be completed daily, but it is encouraged to practise as much as possible.
Children are not expected to do Doodle and Times Table Rockstars every evening at home, but little and often is ideal! Thank you for your support :)
Please note, the inside of the reading diaries have changed. There are dates on each page and a 'homework' section on the left hand side but please ignore these. Please see the image below of how to insert the reads into the new reading diaries.
