Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to the first Newsletter of Autumn 2. The children have settled back into school well ready for another half term of working hard on the lead up to Christmas!
Writing
This week, we started our new class book: Kensuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo. We read the first chapter where Michael describes his ordinary life before his disappearance. He lived with his parents and dog, Stella Artois, and attended school. Then, his parents received a letter that changed everything. They decided to sell their house and sail around the world on a boat named Peggy Sue. We then debated whether Michael and his parents should take the Peggy Sue on the round the world trip they have planned.
Maths
We have picked up where we left off in Maths this week, continuing our topic of 'Multiplication and Division'. We have started looking at formal methods of short multiplication, using both the expanded method and the contracted method.
Geography
In Geography, we have started a new topic, looking at The Alps. This week we located The Alps on a map of Europe and identified which countries the mountain range stretches through.
Design and Technology
This half term the children will be making pop-up books in DT. This week, we looked at examples and then starting designing our own pop-up books, thinking about our target audience.Â
Reading Diaries
We would like to remind you that all children should be reading at least 5 times a week. Reading more together is incredibly beneficial and it will help the children in school, especially in their English lessons!
