Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had an exciting and productive first week back in Year 2!
Before the half term, we finished writing stories inspired by The Day the Crayons Came Home. The children created imaginative tales from the perspective of the crayons and thoroughly enjoyed sharing their work with the class. Now, we are moving on to writing diary entries as the famous explorer, Captain Cook. The children will step into his shoes and write about his voyages and discoveries!
In Maths, we have been working on arrays to help the children understand commutativity in multiplication (e.g., 3 x 4 = 4 x 3). The children have used arrays to visualise these concepts, which has helped solidify their understanding. This half term, we are moving on to division, starting with concrete resources like counters and cubes to support their grasp of this new concept.
We’ve just completed our unit on habitats, finishing with an exploration of food chains. The children learned about how animals and plants depend on one another for survival. Our next focus will be microhabitats, and we’ll be investigating some of these smaller ecosystems right here on our school grounds.
In Geography, we wrapped up our unit on hot and cold places, with children debating whether they’d prefer to live in a hot or cold climate. This half term in History, we are starting a unit on 'Schools in the past', exploring how education has changed over time.
Thank you for your ongoing support!
