Year 1
Year 1
And with that we came to the end of Autumn 1 and have begun our journey into new topics, ideas and fun this term!
In our final week of Autumn 1 we did some exciting learning and explored our creativity. In art, we combined our skills and different mediums and created a whole-class spiral bonanza! We got to use our individuality to come together and combine to create a beautiful and inspiring art piece.
In PSHE we concluded our topic on 'Being me in my world'. We explored our classroom charter and the golden rules in which we created for our classroom. We recalled our learning and were able to express how we as an individual and as a class can make the classroom a happy environment and describe how we like to learn in our class. Jigsaw Jack came and paid our classrooms a visit and brought his sneaky camera with him! He asked to take pictures of us showing him how we learn in our class and what expectations we have for our learning environment.
In English, we completed our Paddington journey and this week have started a new and thrilling journey into the world of 'Jack and the beanstalk'. We have acted out being the 'big, smelly ogre' and selling poor Daisy the cow for magic beans at the market. We are looking forward to writing and exploring this story in further depth in the upcoming week. Hopefully, we find some magic beans hidden in our classrooms.
In Maths we furthered our understanding of 'one more' and 'one less'. We were systematic in our endeavour to explore our tens frames using counters to help solidify our understanding. This week we have been focusing on moving up on the number line and looking at our numbers 6-10 in further depth. We have been representing these in different numerals and symbols. We are learning to spell and write our number names 1-10!
Last term we took a look at starting our Phase 5 graphemes and now we are carrying on right where we left off. We will be continuing to learn new and exciting graphemes and using our 'grow the codes' to support our understanding. Remember to read every day with your children to further their understanding and have the ability to unlock the world of independent reading.
This term we are exploring Geography, in which we are going to be learning about the UK. This week we examined Google Earth and tried to find The United Kingdom and furthered our understanding of the country we live in.
We also celebrated and acknowledge the celebration of Diwali and how this special event is celebrated. We hope everyone, who celebrates, had a beautiful and lovely celebration!
We ended our final week with a lesson on Financial education, learning the value of money and the value of different notes and coins in the United Kingdom. We also managed to buy Miss Mitchell's water bottle at the shop for £100.00.
