Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had another great few weeks in Year 5, and here is a snapshot of what we have been learning:
Writing
We have continued to read our book, 'London Eye Mystery', and last week we finished our newspaper reports about the disappearance of Ted's cousin - Salim. The children worked well to write in the correct tone, and loved publishing their final newspaper reports on Canva! We have also immersed ourselves into London's Southbank, using all five senses, expanded noun phrases, alliteration and onomatopoeia to describe it.
Maths
We have finished our first topic on number and place value and have moved onto our second topic: Addition and Subtraction. The children have been using an online tool called Polypad to show their calculations on number lines and with the place value counters.
Science
In Science, we’ve continued our topic on Mixtures and Separation. This week we investigated to see which household item would be best for filtering muddy water. We watched a video from the International Space Station about the importance of filtering water to make it clean again!
History
The children have thoroughly enjoyed the start of our History topic for this term - The Tudors. We had also received some fantastic pieces of home learning based around the topic - well done!
In the last two weeks, we also celebrated European Languages Day and National Poetry Day. On Languages Day, the children enjoyed receiving a taster of Romanian!
Thank you for the continued support with the children's home learning tasks - we love to see their creativity!
