Year 8 LAB Learner Service Project: First Give Charity
This term, Year 8 students took part in the First Give Project,
linking with our MYP Service in Action programme. Each class explored local social issues,
researched charities, and selected one to support. They welcomed charity representatives, planned social action activities, such as fundraising, awareness campaigns, and volunteering and presented their work in class.
One group per class was chosen to compete in the First Give Final, with the winning team earning a £1,000 grant for their charity.
Class Charities:
8A – Greenwich Homeless Project
8B – The Felix Project
8C – Homestart Greenwich
8D – The Felix Project
8E – Greenwich and Bexley Hospice
8F – Woolwich Service Users Project
On 30th June, all of Year 8 joined the Walk a Mile for Greenwich fundraiser.
Sponsored by families, students walked the rugby field and created posters,
T-shirts, and banners to support their causes.
All funds raised will be shared between the six charities.
Well done, Year 8 - your actions truly made a difference!
Year 9 LAB Learner Community Project:
Students in Year 9 have been enthusiastically engaging in their community project - an important part of our MYP curriculum that encourages them to reflect on their learning, collaborate with peers, and contribute meaningfully to their community. Year 9 showcased their hard work at the Community Project Exhibition, presenting group projects in the Sportshall, transformed into an exhibition space. Working in groups of one to three, students displayed their projects on themes linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, including Equality, Life Below Water, and Good Health and Well-being.
Year 7 and 8 students toured the spaces, exploring interactive displays and engaging with the presenters. The event highlighted the students' creativity, research and commitment to global issues, leaving younger students inspired for their future projects.
These community projects are more than just academic exercises - they’re helping students develop empathy, leadership, and a sense of responsibility. We’re incredibly proud of our Year 9s for their thoughtful initiatives and their commitment to making a difference.
