Diversity & Equity

This course is committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable community.

As part of its curriculum, ChE 098:Coffee and Cosmetics: Engineering of Consumer Products will actively discuss how the coffee and cosmetic industries are becoming more aware of their consumer base and the impacts of their practices on socioeconomic-disadvantaged communities.

• Diversity, equity, and inclusion impacts of the trade and hiring policies will be introduced.

• Students will work in groups to identify, discuss, and suggest ways small and large companies alike impact the environment and human cultures.

• Students will be challenged to how their practices as consumers have positively or negatively reinforced corporate practices.

While this course will spend the majority of its focus on engineering processes for coffee and cosmetics, cosmetics are generally applied to skin and hair and thus the topics of race and gender fluidity will be embraced.

...and, as always, we will run our course following Lehigh's Principles of Our Equitable Community.
