Late notes will be accepted for a student's file, but attendance coding may not change.
As stated in the LISD Handbook, documentation for absences should be received within 2 days after the student returns to school.
All student absences must be verified in writing with a parent note/email, medical note or other state approved document.
Excessive absences with parent notes could lead to a conference with the AP and counselor to determine next steps.
Phone calls are not permitted as documentation for any absence.
Documentation can be emailed from the parent/guardian email of record to VRHSattendance@leanderisd.org or the student can turn the note in to the Attendance Office.
ABSENCE NOTES/EMAILS MUST INCLUDE :
Student's full legal name
Student's ID number
Student's Grade
Date(s) of absence
Reason for absence
Parent's Signature
Parent's phone number
Current date
Failure to submit documentation within 2 days of an absence may result in the absence remaining unexcused.
Due to the high volume of notes received, please allow 5 school days for attendance codes to be updated. Absence codes can be monitored in the LISD Home Access Center (HAC).
Students should check their attendance daily in HAC for accuracy.
EXCUSED Absences
Excused absences are not viewed as days a student is entitled to take. Students are required to attend at least 90 percent of the days the class is offered. The student will be required to make up excessive excused absences. Depending on the attendance code used, excused absences may count against a student's attendance Hours Owed .
Examples of an Excused Absence
Student Illness
Funeral/Memorial
Weather or road conditions that make travel dangerous
The following absence examples can be excused with a parent note; however, can be considered a "State Approved Non-Absence" if the proper documentation is provided. A "State Approved Non-Absence" is one for which the attendance code is equivalent to present and student's do not accumulate hours. It is always best to turn in proper documentation for these types of absences.
