Students can check out 5 books at a time. If they return 2 and still have 3 on their account, for example, they can check out 2 new ones.
Standard check-out time is 2 weeks.
If students are using a book for a class assignment, or need more than 2 weeks to finish the book, bring it back to the library and renew it (re-check it out) so it's not overdue.
No, we don't charge late fines.
But you are keeping other people from reading the book, so bring it back on time, please.
Go to the CRMS Library Website > Catalog and sign in (upper right hand corner). Click on your profile (in some cases you may need to click "My Stuff" or "My Info") to see what is checked out to you.
Or, you can stop by the library, enter your ID number, and ask the library aide to help you.
Library aides will deliver hand-written notices to you in your ELA class to remind you, usually about a week after your book was due.
Mrs. Wright may email you a reminder if someone is waiting on that particular book right away, or if the book is brand new or popular.
1 month after the book was due, it will be marked "lost," which automatically creates a fine in your MySchoolBucks (lunch) account for you to pay to replace the book. That will send a notice to your parents' email accounts and yours.
You and your parents will continue to receive email notices once a week until the book is found and returned or paid for.
We would ALWAYS rather get the book back in good condition than have you pay for it.
It costs us time, labels, label covers, book covers, etc. plus the cost of the book to replace it.
We do not check out books with large rips in the pages, food stains, or water damage. If we receive a damaged book and you were the last person to check it out, you will be charged to replace it.
Not at all. Mrs. Wright honestly appreciates people who read books, and the occasional late book happens. There is no judgment, and you are welcome back to check out more books.
The only time we feel frustrated is if you check out a book early in the year, ignore all the reminders, and finally turn it in near the end of the year, especially if it is a book lots of other people are waiting to read. Sometimes we buy replacement copies and then you return it a lot later and we didn't need to spend money on that book.
So please make a habit of setting an alarm or having a system for returning books - we want you to borrow them - that's what they're here for!
This is the same as your lunch account system. Here are the steps to set up an account:
Go to myschoolbucks.com or download the mobile app
Create your free account and add your students using their school name / student ID or birthdate
Add school items or invoices to your cart
Check out using your credit / debit card.
Please email Mrs. Wright or stop by the library and have the aide check to see if the book is on the shelf.
We understand this can be frustrating. We have 13 library aides checking books in and out, and humans do make mistakes. Most of the time, the person finds the book at home, in ELA class, in a backpack, or someplace, but every once in a while, the book is returned to the library and not scanned in.
Letting us know you think you returned it is really helpful because it signals us to check the shelves again.
If we can't find the book in the library, we ask you to keep looking for it.
We will look around extra carefully, too. We can't emphasize enough: very often students do find books they insisted they returned or never checked out.
Great! Do NOT hand the book to your friend, because it's on your account. If your friend loses it or damages it, YOU are responsible to pay for it. Bring the book back to the library - bring your friend too! - and we will scan the book in from you and check it out to your friend.
We have a system that lets us borrow books from other Leander ISD libraries. If it is a really popular book, we can't, because their students will be wanting all their copies of that book, too.
But sometimes another library has a book we don't own, and we can borrow it for you if you request it, or visit the library so we can set up the request for you.
If you want to borrow a book from a high school library, your parents must fill out this form first to give permission.
You can start with our reading menus, our book talk videos, or browse the CRMS Catalog or eBooks. You can also visit the library to look at the displays, or ask for a recommendation from Mrs. Wright or one of our amazing library aides!
