To better understand how track works it’s important to know the events and the their order.
-2400M run (boys and girls run together per grade)
-400M relay (boys and girls run together per grade)
-800M run
-100M hurdles
-110M hurdles
-100M dash
-800M relay (boys and girls run together -per grade)
-400M run
-300M hurdles
-200M dash
-1600M run (boys and girls run together per grade)
-1600M relay (boys and girls run together per grade)
And the field events (whose order will change from track meet to track meet) these are usually before the running events start.
-Pole Vault
-Long Jump
-Discus
-Shot Put
-High Jump
-Triple Jump
During our track meeting on, your athlete took a survey. In the survey they selected the events they would like to try out for.
-And we introduced the coaching staff.
Coach Gandara - Shot putt, discus & 8th grade boys running events & relays
Coach Butkus - Long jump / triple jump
Coach Patino - High jump / 7th grade girls running events & relays
Coach Dielmann - Pole vault & 7th grade boys running events & relays
Coach Camacho - Hurdles
Coach Dunn - Long Distance / 8th grade girls running events & relays
But what the other races that aren’t relays?
Your athletes have been timed at the 100, 200, and 400. We have used those times to create our relay teams and their survey answers to place them into the events they will be participating in.
However, if your athletes signed up for two running events that run back to back they are going to have to chose one or the other.
An athlete may participate in 5 events. If they chose to participate in 3 running events they can only do 2 field events. If they chose to participate in 3 field events then they can only do 2 running events. There is also the option to just participate in one event.
Track Meets -
There are 6 track meets this year. As the track meets progress the amount of participants lowers. This first meet we are allowed to have as many as time will allow. The second meet we can only take 8 per event, then 6, then 4, then 4 again, and the district track meet we are only allowed to take 3 athletes per event.
The first track meet is at Glenn HS on February 12, 2025. Field events start 4:30, I will post the schedule in SportsYou.
The idea for this first track meet is to get as many athletes involved as possible while still being able to finish at a appropriate time for a school night!
After the first meet the top athletes of each event will be allowed to participate. That number will be determined by the track meet (as the year progresses the number of entries lowers).
Now let’s talk about practice!
We handle most running events during the athletic period, if your athlete is not in athletics they will workout after school or during their physical education class.
Field events and hurdles are practiced before school.
Practice Times
Monday, Tuesday & Friday - Practice starts at 7:30am
Track meet days and the day after, we won’t practice.
