CRITERIA FOR GIRLS BASKETBALL TRYOUTS

DAY 1:

Students are divided into groups and assigned a station in which to begin. (Groups are based on how they signed in at beginning of tryouts. For instance: #1 - # 5 would be at a station together, #10 - #15 would be at a station together, etc.) Each girl has one minute to perform the activity at the given station. Scores are recorded on how many shots are made or number of exercises completed depending on the particular station. Students are rotated through each station until they have been to all ten stations. Information is counted and recorded. Scoring is objective.

There are ten stations, which are as follows:

DAY 2:

Students are placed on a scrimmage team based # assignment as from day 1. Students have opportunity to scrimmage four times in 6 minute games. Skills that are scored and looked at are as follows:

Students are told the skills that are going to be scored and looked at by the coaches. Explanations and examples are given. Each skill can be scored as:

Zero = student does not display skill.

Five points = student sometimes displays skill.

Ten points = student consistently displays skill and did it well.

DAY 3:

Drills: 3 man weave, 2 man break, Baylor Drill, etc.

Tryouts are viewed by the four female middle school coaches and the high school coaches.

A list of girls that made the team will be posted on a private website only accessible to the girls that tried out. The girls that made the team are expected to be at practice the next morning. Any girls that did not make the team are encouraged to talk to the coaches in order to find out which skills they need to improve on, in order to make them a better player.
