The following is a list of all school and community scholarships available to WHS Seniors!
Scholarships can and do change and the list is finalized each school year by December. Applications open late January/ early February and are submitted through Schoology.

American Legion Post 293
Award: 1 for $1000
Criteria: A parent has served in the United States Armed Forces as defined by the LEGION Act of 2019, specifically: Honorable service as determined by the federal government.
Eligible students are willing to adhere to the tenants of the American Legion Pillar of Americanism.
Eligible students will have a grade point average of 3.0 and above.
Eligible students will be accepted to an accredited college or trade school.
Applicants will be asked to attest to their family’s financial need.
The applicant should have a history of part-time employment.
Applicant extra-curricular activity will be considered.
American Legion Pillars of Americanism
Respect for the United States, our constitutional system of government, and the symbols of our union, including the United States Flag, and the United States Anthem “The Star-Spangled Banner”.

Gnosis Solutions Scholarship

Woodgrove HS or Loudoun Valley HS senior
Students interested in any career that supports our national security. Most jobs that exist in the commercial area also exist in the national security arena. Everything from but not limited to drivers, skilled trades workers, food service workers to business analysts, health care professionals, environmental workers, law enforcement, and those careers more commonly associated with security like intelligence officers, cryptologists and cyber security analysts.

Hillsboro Ruritan Club Scholarship Award
Award: 2 @ $2,000 each
For graduating seniors who will be attending a 2-year community college, junior college, vocational, or technical school.
Criteria:
Resident of Loudoun County;
Graduating senior from Woodgrove High School or Loudoun -Valley who attended his/her entire senior year at Woodgrove or Loudoun Valley;
Demonstrated academic effort and performance;
Show financial need;
Evaluation will be based on various factors including, but not limited to:
Financial need; GPA; standardized test scores; course selection;
Any of the following --- community service or volunteer efforts; academic achievement or honors; involvement in extra-curricular school activities; employment outside school; and special personal or family circumstances that you believe should be considered
Financial need is the most heavily weighted among the criteria for selection.

Jane Pratt & Jed Shilling Blue Ridge Education Award
Award: From $1,000 - $1,500
The Jane Pratt & Jed Shilling Blue Ridge Mountains Education Award is presented by Friends of the Blue Ridge Mountains (FBRM), founded in 2007 to preserve, enhance, and celebrate the Blue Ridge so that it stands secure as a valuable resource and treasured space for present and future generations. Jane Pratt helped create and expand FBRM after she had established The Mountain Institute to protect mountains globally by improving the sustainability of their ecosystems and involving the people of mountain cultures in these activities. One of her goals was to encourage local students to become more knowledgeable about the importance of mountains and more involved in protecting the Blue Ridge. This award was originally granted in her memory and subsequently renamed to memorialize her husband, Jed Shilling, who took up Jane's work with mountains upon her death.
Objective: The Jane Pratt & Jed Shilling Blue Ridge Mountains Education Award is presented annually to a select number of high school seniors who satisfy the criteria outlined below.
Criteria:
Applicants must be in good standing as a graduating senior in high school;
Applicants must be currently enrolled in or have completed an environmental studies/biological sciences program with a B grade average or better;
Applicants must demonstrate a clear commitment to environmental stewardship through participation in relevant school projects, internships, and/or community activities;
Applicants must have performed a minimum of 8 hours of volunteer service during their senior year working directly on projects on the Blue Ridge Mountains sponsored by FBRM or like-minded environmental organizations;
Applicants must submit a short but substantive essay that speaks to their qualifications and interest in the mountains and environmental stewardship;
Applicants must submit a transcript;
Applicants must receive unanimous endorsement to receive the Award from representatives of the high school and FBRM at least three weeks prior to Senior Award ceremony.

Kenneth W. Culbert Elementary School PTO
Award: 1 for $500
The Kenneth W. Culbert Elementary School PTO Scholarship was created to recognize a former Ken Culbert Elementary student planning to continue their education with a college, university, trade school or certificated program. This $500 scholarship is awarded annually to one applicant who meets the criteria of eligibility and submits all documents and attachments with the completed application by the specified deadline.
Criteria: Applicant must be a senior in high school.
Applicant must have attended KWC Elementary for a minimum of three completed years(grade levels).
Applicant must provide a transcript from their high school counselor with a minimum GPA of 2.0.
Applicant must complete the application and write a one-page essay describing:
your education and memories at KWC and why you would like to be considered for the scholarship.
your volunteer experiences, most rewarding volunteer activities and how they have personally affected your life.
Applicant must provide a letter of recommendation either from an academic teacher or a non- family member reference commenting on your abilities, reliability, determination and capacity to achieve.

Loudoun-Robey
Award: 2 awards at $12,000 - payable $3,000 each semester for 2 years
The Loudoun Robey Scholarships are funded by the Clarence L. Robey Charitable Trust which results from the life savings of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence L. Robey. Mr. Robey served as President of the Purcellville National Bank which became First Virginia Bank and is now BBT. Mrs. Robey originated the idea of having a library built in Purcellville; and, with the approval of the Town Council, she accepted the responsibility of raising the needed funds. Within a few years, the Purcellville library became a reality through her efforts. Both Mr. and Mrs. Robey had a great interest in community life, especially in the field of education.
Criteria: Applicant MUST be a resident in the attendance zone of either Woodgrove High School or Loudoun Valley High School

Lovettsville-Waterford Ruritan Ambitious Spirit Mickey McDowell Memorial Award
Award: 1 for $3,000
Objective:
The Mickey McDowell Scholarship will be awarded to a student continuing on to a four year university, Community college, technical school, or vocational school who has demonstrated/documented overcoming challenges and/or adversity. Your submissions will remain confidential with the Ruritan Club Scholarship Committee. We are looking to benefit those students that have had difficult or challenging experiences in their lives of which there are so many. Here are some examples that are not intended to be exclusive in any manner – caring for a parent, sibling or grandparent; overcoming a difficult medical or therapeutic diagnosis; loss of employment and/or death in the family; and circumstances that made your academic goals more difficult to achieve.

Lovettsville-Waterford Ruritan Community Service Henry and Marty Dyker Memorial
Award: 1 for $3,000
Objective:
The Henry and Marty Dyker Community Service Scholarship will be awarded to a student continuing on to a four year university, community college, technical school, or vocational school who has significantly contributed to the community through their volunteer and leadership activities. The Dykers lived a life filled with community service. What have you done outside of high school to better your community or provide aide to those in need? Who are these students? They may volunteer for community service, collect for the food bank, work with Scouting, equine therapy and/or head up drives to benefit the less advantages in the community– the possibilities are endless. Let us know what you are doing to make your community a better place and how you are trying to take a leadership role in any activity.

Lovettsville-Waterford Ruritan Entrepreneur Grant Buddy Williams Memorial
Award: 1 for $2,500
Objective:
Not every student wants to attend a four year college or university immediately. This Scholarship is for the dreamers, the inventors, the entrepreneurs, and independent thinkers. Do you want a career in the beauty industry? Starting a landscaping business? Want to work on diesel engines or become a welder? The Entrepreneurial Grant is for you.
The Buddy Williams Entrepreneurial Grant will be awarded to a student who has started a business/is starting a business and needs an investment of capital either to pay for technical training, licensing, needed equipment or supplies.
You should include a very basic plan describing the following:
1. What is your idea and why do you want to spend time doing it?
2. How does your idea meet a need or solve a problem for customers?
3. Why do you believe your idea will make money?
4. What skills, talents, and education do you have or want to obtain to make your plan a reality?
5. What financial assistance is available to you and how will you use the scholarship?
We may interview each candidate for this scholarship to provide guidance and help define short and long term goals.

Lovettsville-Waterford Ruritan Good Citizen Irma and Roger Powell Memorial
Award: 1 for $3,000
Objective:
The Irma & Roger Powell Good Citizen Scholarship recognizes those students that serve their community just like the efforts of the Powells and will be awarded to a student continuing on to a four year university, community college, technical school, or vocational school who has significantly contributed to their school environment and community through their volunteer activities. Who are these students? They may organize their peers in high school to benefit others. They may volunteer for community service, school fundraising for the community, collect for the food bank, work with Scouting, equine therapy – the possibilities are endless. Let us know what you are doing to make your community a better place.

Lovettsville-Waterford Ruritan Humanitarian Barbara Carr Memorial
Award: 1 for $3,000
Objective:
The Barbara Carr Scholarship will be awarded to a student continuing on to a four year university, community college, technical school, or vocational school who has demonstrated sustained focused service efforts on behalf of genuinely needy individuals and/or communities. Letters of recommendations may be considered as part of your application. Ms. Carr lived a life filled with community service and she supported her husband in his extensive efforts with the Ruritans. These students may volunteer for needy communities and with entities that represent the underprivileged, elderly or infirm– the possibilities are endless. Let us know what you are doing to help the needy in your community.

Mountain View Elementary
Award: $1000
Mountain View Elementary School PTA is dedicated to helping students receive the educational resources they need.
Criteria:
-Applicant must be a graduating senior
-Applicant must have an acceptance letter to a post-High School program (college or vocational) and be planning on attending during the following school year
-Applicant must have attended Mountain View Elementary for at least 1 complete school year
-Applicant must complete the application and submit an essay

The applications will be reviewed and essays will be judged anonymously during the month of April.

Purcellville Business Association Stephen Varmecky
Award: 1 for $2,000
In 1986, the Purcellville Business Association established a yearly scholarship for an outstanding Business
& Marketing Education student. It’s the goal of the association to support the continuing education of local future businessmen or women. The award is made to an outstanding Business & Marketing Education student because of the program’s mandate to develop future leaders in the fields of business and marketing, and because of our student’s service to the association. Today, one award will be made, one either Loudoun Valley, Woodgrove High, home-schooled or private school. The board of directors of the association will select a committee to establish criteria for the award and to review the applicants.
Criteria: Any student who has taken the following Marketing or Business Education classes while in high school and will graduate from either Loudoun Valley or Woodgrove High Schools are eligible.

• Provide a letter of recommendation
• Complete a cover letter to the association detailing the student’s career goals, planned course of study, name of the school(s) you hope to attend, and any indication of special circumstances or need for the scholarship.
Payment: A check for $1500 will be deposited with the school to be attended in the student’s name. Tuition, books, or other expenses can be credited to the student’s account until the award is depleted. If the student does not enroll in school within one year of this award, the account will be closed and returned to the association.
All qualified graduating seniors are encouraged to apply for this scholarship. The recipients will be announced during the Spring Community Awards Assembly. Best of luck to all of you.

Purcellville Lions Club
Award: 2 for $2000 each (may be renewed for up to 4 years)
The Purcellville Lions Club will be awarding two (2) four year Scholarships. Each scholarship will have a value of $2000 per year for up to (4) years.
These two scholarships will be awarded to applicants from Loudoun Valley H.S. and/or Woodgrove H.S. on a competitive basis. Depending on the quality and number of applicants from each school, the Club reserves the right to award both Scholarships to one of the above-noted high schools.
Criteria: Applicants must:
(I) be a resident in the attendance zone of either Loudoun Valley or Woodgrove High Schools for at least the last 2 years.
(ii) have been accepted into an accredited 4 year institution of higher learning;
(iii) show high scholastic effort (3.75) GPA minimum requirement;
(iv) demonstrate need for financial aid;
(v) show involvement in school and community activities; and
(vi) demonstrate high standards of character and citizenship.

Rachel M. Leister Memorial Scholarship
Award: 1 for $1,000
The Rachel M. Leister Memorial Scholarship was created to honor the career and commitment of a dedicated educator. Ms. Leister spent 18 years as a special education teacher in the Loudoun County School System, working at both Loudoun Valley and Wood Grove High Schools, where she always put her students first. While she is no longer with us, her legacy lives on through this scholarship.
One scholarship will be awarded annually to an applicant who meets the eligibility criteria and submits all documents and attachments with the completed application by the specified deadline.
Criteria:
1. Applicant must be a senior at Woodgrove High School.
2. Applicant must have attended Woodgrove High School for a minimum of two years.
3. Applicant must plan to pursue higher education at a college, university, trade school or in a certificate program in the field of education.
4. Applicant must provide a transcript with a minimum GPA of 2.0.
5. Applicant must complete the application to include two brief essay questions (no more than one page) describing their education and career goals and how they would benefit from the scholarship.
6. Applicant must provide one letter of recommendation from a teacher/counselor who can speak to their academic abilities, reliability, determination and capacity to achieve.

Rotary Club of Purcellville N. Jeanine Hager Memorial
Award: 1 for $1,000
This award is presented in memory of Nancy Jeanine Hager, a dedicated teacher and kind hearted servant of her community. Jeanine founded two pre-schools in Purcellville and co-founded a diabetic children’s camp in Indiana after becoming a diabetic herself in 1972. Dr. Brad Hager is providing this scholarship as a remembrance to his wife’s dedication to students, particularly to those for who this $1,000 may make a difference in their ability to pursue their dreams as educators.

Round Hill Elementary PTO
Award: 1 for $500
Round Hill Elementary School PTO is dedicated to helping students receive the educational resources they need. In alliance with that goal, RHES PTO is offering a $500 scholarship to encourage students to continue their education beyond High School.

-Applicant must be a graduating senior
-Applicant must have an acceptance letter to a post-High School program (college or vocational) and be planning on attending during the following school year
-Applicant must have attended Round Hill Elementary for at least 1 complete school year

Shelly's Fund for a Beautiful Tomorrow
Award: 1 for $1500
This award is presented in memory of Shelly Kaplan, who lived life to the fullest and worked hard to make the world a better place. Shelly's Fund for a Beautiful Tomorrow continues to do what she spent so much of her life doing, enriching people's lives through personal connections, enjoying both being an artist and appreciating the art of others and always engaging in community service to help others.
Shelly's Fund for a Beautiful Tomorrow is awarding a $1500 scholarship to a senior who has both a passion for the fine arts and may need financial assistance in order to attend college and pursue their dreams.
Criteria:
Participation is the fine arts for at least 3 years of high school
Participation is defined as three years of study in one fine arts subject area or can be a combination of various fine arts classes and/or activities.
Need based
GPA of 3.0 or higher
Admitted to a two or four year college/university
Selection:
Selection for the Shelly's Fund For Fine Arts (SFFA) Scholarship will be based on a student's passion for the arts as well their financial need when it comes to attending the college of their choice.

Upper Loudoun Little League’s Hometown Heroes
Award: 1 for $500
Since 2003, Upper Loudoun has presented a scholarship to a graduating senior in western Loudoun who played baseball in ULLL. In the youth sports arena, it takes many, many hours of volunteer service to give children an opportunity to develop athletic talent but more importantly, it develops the life skills of teamwork and sportsmanship. It is our hope as a youth baseball league that each child leave our program inspired to give back to the community in some fashion. Active citizenship and the spirit of volunteering create a quality community in which to live.
Criteria:
Must be a graduating senior planning to attend a college or university this coming fall
Must have played at least one season of baseball with ULLL
Must be a resident with an address located within the ULLL boundaries

Upper Loudoun Youth Football League’s Mike and Mary Ann Rose
Award: 2 for $1,000
Each year, the Upper Loudoun Youth Football League (ULYFL) awards the Mike & Mary Ann Rose Scholarship to two seniors at Woodgrove High School. (Two seniors at LVHS are also recognized each year.)
Criteria
Awardees must be alumni of the ULYFL football or cheer programs (one award is given each year, per program).
Scholarships are intended to support seniors who are continuing their education at a college/university, community college, technical school, or vocational school.
Selection criteria include academic performance, community contributions through volunteer and leadership activities and the candidate’s written responses to application questions.
Awardees must also embody the values of the ULYFL: good sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty and courage.

Western Loudoun Chiropractic Scholarship
Award: 1 for $1,000
Criteria:
Applicant must be a graduating senior from Woodgrove High School.
Applicant will be pursuing a career in the healthcare industry and will be attending a 4 year college/university.
Applicant must have a minimum 3.5 GPA
Funds are paid directly to the college/university.

Woodgrove PTSO-Academic Excellence
Award: 1 for $1000
This PTSO scholarship recognizes a Woodgrove student who has excelled academically while maintaining a high level of participation outside the classroom.
Criteria:
Woodgrove High School students only
4.4 GPA or higher
Senior who wishes to attend any accredited post-secondary military or vocational school,community college or four-year institution of higher learning of their choosing

Woodgrove PTSO-CAMPUS

This PTSO scholarship recognizes students who have successfully completed the CAMPUS program. CAMPUS is an academic and college preparation program designed to meet the specific needs of students from populations historically under-represented in higher education and prospective first-generation college students.
Criteria: Woodgrove High School students only

Woodgrove PTSO-Wolverine Embodiment
Award: 1 for $1000
This PTSO scholarship recognizes a Woodgrove student who participated extensively and enthusiastically in school activities and embodies the school motto, 'Work, Honor, Strive'.
Criteria:
Woodgrove High School students only.
3.5 GPA or higher.
Senior who plans to attend any accredited post-secondary military or vocational school, community college, or four-year institution of higher learning.
Demonstrated participation and school spirit in Woodgrove High School.
Deadline: April 5, 2024
Wil Mills Memorial
Award: 1 for $500 to WHS and 1 for $500 to LVHS
Criteria: One graduate per year from WHS and one graduate per year from LVHS
Applicants must plan to major in one of the following areas: teaching, criminal justice, medical type programs or engineering
Applicants should demonstrate outstanding achievement in high school and community service activities
Submit: Wil Mills Memorial Scholarship application form which includes two questions to be answered in essay form. Please submit typewritten response to both questions.
Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the College or University to which the graduate has been accepted.

WWABC “Fore the Wolverines” Athletic
Award: 10 for $1,000 each
Criteria: Five males and five females from graduating senior class of Woodgrove
Successfully completed a minimum of one season of a Virginia High School league (VHSL) sport at Woodgrove High School at the Varsity level while also earning a varsity letter
Minimum GPA of 2.5
Acceptance at an institution of higher learning (must provide a copy of your letter of acceptance)
Completed application (including essay)
