Virginia Summer Residential Governor's School

Open to current Sophomores and Juniors, the Virginia Summer Residential Governor’s Schools is a selective four week program held on various college and university campuses throughout Virginia and is a great opportunity to work and study not only with other students with similar talents and interests but also with mentors, professors, scientists, and other professionals in their field of interest.

Programs are offered in Agriculture, Humanities, Math/Science/Technology, Visual and Performing Arts, Marine Science, and Engineering.


Important Dates for 2024 Applicants

Mid October: VDOE website will be updated for 2024. Please wait until the site is updated before starting your application.

October 23: Registration for Auditions Due (Fine Arts Only)

To register for a audition, submit the Preliminary Audition Registration Form online. Requirements for the Fine Arts are listed below:


October 30: Preliminary Auditions

                       By appointment only at Briar Woods HS

November 8: VPA Participants notified of Audition Results via Email

December 15: APPLICATIONS DUE!

To apply, print the application found under the Applications and Resource Materials  header and return completed form to Ms. Fiore in the Counseling Department. Please note that each program has a unique application. Two teacher references and an essay are required by the due date. 

Mid December 2023: State Audition notifications sent by VDOE

January 2024: VPA State Auditions

February 9, 2024: Applicants notified of their Nomination Status 

Successful applicants are nominated for admission and their applications are forwarded to the VA Department of Education (VDOE)

April 15 2024: VDOE notifies Nominees of their Acceptance Status
