Friday, June 6th
This class is organized by UNITS and TOPICS. These units and topics coincide with LCPS's biology standards.
Ex: Unit 1 is Biochemistry. The topics that fall under Unit 1 are Properties of Water, Macromolecules, and Enzymes.
Each topic will typically have these 3 items in the grade book. These grades will include:
Summative Assessments (Tests or Projects)
Mini Quizzes (Minor Summative): These mini-quizzes are short minor summatives students can complete using their own handwritten notes or their Digital Interactive Notebook (DINB). Students are given 10 - 15 minutes to complete these mini quizzes.
Formatives: Formatives are used to see how well students are grasping the "big ideas" in the topic. These formatives do not impact students' overall grade in the class.
All major summatives, minor summatives, and formatives will be created to be completed during the class block. This is meant to prevent students from accumulating missing assignments that bring down their overall grade.
NOTE: Research biology students will be completing an independent research project outside of class. The due dates for this project will be strictly enforced.
Mrs. Hudson has a no-exception quarterly deadline. This deadline is typically one week before the quarter/grading period ends. She will not accept work after this deadline has passed.
Students can only earn a max of an 80% on a assignment submited after the original due date for a period of TWO WEEKS. After the 2 week period students submitting an assignment will receive a 50% as long as it's submited beore the quarter deadline. NO WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE QUARTER DEADLINE!
All students are responsible for the work they missed while they were away. If a student is absent and misses a class he or she should check remind to find the To-Do List from the class they missed. Ms. Hudson sends a picture of the To-Do list on remind at the end of each class. If a student has any questions about the items on the To-Do List they can send her an email, remind message, or request a Viking Time appointment by filling out THIS FORM.
Students do NOT need to makeup MINOR SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENTS aka MINI-QUIZZES that they missed in this class. They will be excused from the minor assessment but are still expected to know the information that was on the mini-quiz they missed as it may be a part of a future major summative assessment.
Students who miss a MAJOR SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT are expected to makeup the assessment before the next class during either their study hall or during Viking Time! Student will have a maximum of 10 days* to makeup a missed major summative assessment. After the 10 day grace period they will have to complete the retake of which they can earn a maximum score of 80%.
*Exceptions will be made on a case by case basis. (i.e. Illness or death in the family kept student out of the building during the 10 day window.)
Students who meet the following conditions will be eligible to retake major summative assessments:
The student scored below an 80% on the summative assessment or project. Students can then receive a maximum of an 80% on their retake.
Students must have completed and submitted their Digital Interactive Notebook (DINB) on Schoology.
Students must complete the retake within the window given by Ms. Hudson. (This will typically be one week to 10 days after grades for the summative have been posted.)
Students schedule to complete retake with Ms. Hudson by completing THIS FORM.
There are no formal retakes for the mini quizzes (minor summative assessments). Instead students who earn a higher score on their corresponding major summative assessment will have that major summative score replace their lower mini quiz score(s).
Students and parents should view final grades on Studentvue and Parentvue. Students and parents can refer back to Schoology to view grade breakdowns such as how the student did on individual exit tickets. Please note that the grades are not weighted on Schoology, and thus the quarter grade in Schoology should be ignored.
