The 9th Grade PBA assessment is designed to encourage students to craft a response to a prompt by taking a stand and using specifics examples as well as a counterargument to convince their readers to agree with them. The assessment will be completed in the middle of the year to allow for verified and calibrated grading.
Suggested Timeline & Teaching Resources
Teachers should be able to incorporate the skill of persuasive writing throughout the curriculum. The outline below suggests what should be completed each quarter, and then teachers can incorporate the various writing skills (introduction, thesis, topic sentence, evidence, counterargument, etc) into current units. The Teacher Resources page gives examples of mini lessons teachers can incorporate into current units or a stand alone argumentative writing unit. (This is a work in progress.)
