Unit Overview
Unit Overview
- Students will explore these questions in a range of texts from multiple genres.
- The anchor text for this unit is The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien, and students will select a book club book or an independent reading book.
- The unit lessons will teach the rhetorical triangle, persuasive writing, detecting bias, fact versus opinion, exposition, theme, and characterization as key literary elements.
- For their culminating assessment, students will select one of their truths and persuade others of its importance and impact by utilizing ethos, pathos, and logos through a persuasive essay, open letter, podcast, or film.
- Students will also engage in a Socratic Seminar centered around their questions and discussions of the anchor text.
