11th Grade PBA
Synthesis
What is the 11th Grade Performance Based Assessment (PBA)?
The 11th Grade PBA assessment is designed to synthesize writing. Students read multiple sources about a specific topic (supporting, opposing, and qualifying) and craft an argument with textual evidence and commentary.
Suggested Timeline & Teaching Resources
Teachers should be able to incorporate the skill of synthesis writing throughout the curriculum. The outline below suggests what should be completed each quarter, and then teachers can incorporate the various writing skills (introduction, claim, topic sentence, evidence, commentary, etc) into current units. The Teacher Resources page gives examples of mini lessons teachers can incorporate into current units or a stand alone synthesis writing unit. (This is a work in progress.)
Understanding PBAs
The PBA Committee will spend the next several years refining the differences between each tier and each grade level.
