The magnificent landscape of The Burren formed the backdrop for young people from Limerick and Clare to explore art and creativity during the Summer of 2021. Based on data collected by the LCYP through consultation since 2019, it became evident that young people recognise the power of outdoor activity to release creativity. In County Clare, in particular, a specific love of hurling was linked, according to one respondent, to ‘allowing the mind to run completely free’. Camán, was designed in response to the voice of the young people consulted in both Limerick and Clare and was delivered in close partnership with Music Generation Clare and GoingWeLLClare. Camán brought young people into the heart of the Burren to experience a range of creative pursuits in the open air, throughout the month of July. Songwriting, hurley making, visual art, learning the Cú, all formed part of a day that allowed young people to absorb their cultural heritage at the Michael Cusack Centre and the Burren Outdoor Education centre.
