Calling on Clare families to share their children's stories with us - deadline extended to 15th July 2023
Do you have a story that you tell to a young child or is there a story you remember from your own childhood? Over Summer 2023, we are working with Clare County Childcare Committee and Clare Libraries to put together a small collection of stories told by parents, grandparents and other family members, to chidren of pre-school age. We hope to gather these stories directly from families living in Clare – those connected to the region for some time as well as those families who have moved to Clare in recent years. If you would like to be part of this project, we will support your idea with professional writers and storytellers to help bring your story to a level suitable for publishing in a book or audio format. You can submit your idea by voice message, text to 086 4120440 or email monica.spencer@lcetb.ie.
2022
Inspired by Abbeyfeale teenagers, the Young Beoirs Gathering brought together teenage girls from Limerick and Clare to share their cultural heritage for Cruinniú na Óg 2022. Girls from Ukraine, Syria, Africa, Pakistan and from local clubs in Limerick enjoyed workshops in Belly dance, henna tattoo, film, drawing, photography, make-up and making affirmation badges. One very memorable moment was created when a Ukrainian group who travelled from Ballyvaughan performed a special dance they had created for the event. Food sharing was also part of the event and young people sharing traditional dishes from Pakistan, Syria, Ukraine as well as Ireland.
The 2022 Young Beoirs Gathering was the second youth cultural event run by the the LCYP in Dance Limerick, following on from Winter Wonderland which took place in 2019 in the same venue. The formula is one that creates a safe, social space for teenagers to come together to share aspects of their creativity as performers, participants and observers. The 2022 event was part of Guth na Mincéirí, a six month celebration of Traveller creativity, in partnership with The GAFF, Limerick Traveller Health Programme, Learning Hub, Limerick, FRESH Film, Dance Limerick and Belltable. Supported by Creative Ireland, The Arts Council, Limerick Arts Office and Cruinniú na nÓg, Limerick.
One of the most ambitious projects to date for the Limerick and Clare LCYP is the creation of a mural on three free standing walls in Pallasgreen's community, sensory garden. Led by artists Julianne Hennelly and James Ryan, young people from Pallasgreen Temblebraden Community Council's youth club will engage with this project. Participants will work with paint, mosaic and a variety of materials to create a multi textured visual and tactile art work, in keeping with the overall concept of the garden. This project will run over several months in 2022.
Over three days during the 2022 Spring Midterm, this group of young boys from Abbeyfeale created their own Rap working with The Local Creative Youth Partnership and Cúla Búla crew. Have a listen!
