Plot:
The story takes place in the countryside small town village of Asahigaoka, a place lacking many of the conveniences that people from the city are accustomed to. The nearest stores are a few miles away and one of the local schools consists of only five students, each of whom is in a different grade of elementary or middle school. Hotaru Ichijo, a fifth grader from Tokyo, transfers into Asahigaoka Branch School and adjusts to countryside life with her new friends.

Episode Summary:
We are introduced to a new character this week: her name is Kaede, but all the children refer to her as "Candy Store" as she operates a small store that mainly deals with the selling of candies and other sweets.
The story surrounds the Japanese custom of rising early in the morning and going to a location where they can witness the first sunrise of the New Year. A major plot element in this episode is that we get to see how the relationship between Renge and Kaede began. It is a heartwarming episode and will leave you with a smile at the end.
