Medication/School Nurse
Students are not allowed to carry prescribed medication on them and must leave it with their home school reception should they need to take medicine during the school day. Written consent from parents must be received before administering any medicine to a student at the Academy.
Medicines will only be accepted for administration if they are prescribed, in date, labelled and in their original container as dispensed by the pharmacist and they include instruction for administration, dosage and storage.
Should you wish a child to take non-prescription medication, we would contact a parent/ guardian/ carer. The carer can bring in two paracetamols, Ibuprofen or other over the counter remedies, along with written consent on the envelope. Alternatively, we try to bring
the student to the main reception and they take the medication in front of the carer.
If you would like to talk about any medical issue concerning your child or would like further information regarding contacting our School Nurse please do not hesitate to contact your child’s School Support Officer.
Rewards and Consequences
Purpose - At Stationers' Crown Woods Academy we believe that positive student behaviour is the key to student success and lies at the core of a successful academy. We aim to encourage and celebrate the success of our students in all aspects of academy life, and to ensure that personal commitment and achievement is acknowledge, rewarded, recorded and reported. The use of praise in developing a positive atmosphere in the classroom cannot be underestimated. it is the key to developing positive relationships, including with those learners who are hardest to reach. We believe that students thrive on meaningful praise as this is a recognition of their efforts and their success.
We aim to promote and reinforce the high expectations we have of our students by rewarding those who strive to go above and beyond our expectations.
Positive acknowledgement and rewards - Students will be acknowledged for their positive contributions to academy life through positive points. These will be associated with behaviours that exemplify the standards we would like all students to aspire to. Positive points will be achievable both in the classroom setting and wider academy life. Additionally, students will be able to achieve positive points for notable achievements beyond the academy.
The value of points will vary depending on the nature of the achievement, varying from 1, 5, 10 to 50. The positive points will be logged on Bromcom by the teacher and reviewed by staff on a weekly basis. Students will be informed of the number of positive point they have accumulated each week. When students reach articular thresholds within a module they will be rewarded.
Negative Behaviours - Students engagement with learning is always the primary aim of the class teacher and staff within the classroom.
For the majority of learners, a gentle reminder or nudge in the right direction is all that is needed to maintain an effective climate for learning. As such, a warning system is used to ensure learners are clear on the classroom behaviours and expectations required. Clear communication and steps of escalation are a key part of the process that enables staff to both convey and implement the system effectively. Escalation steps should be outlined with care and consideration, taking individual needs into account. Regular and genuine praise will be used to motivate students and encourage the behaviours and attitudes that will make the learning environment a place where all learners can flourish. The warning system will be visible for all learners to see. this will provide both clarity and an opportunity to modify behaviour if required.
Warning System - All classrooms will display a warning system that offers students opportunities to modify their behaviour. If the student is presenting poor behaviour they will be given a warning. This is a reminder from the teacher that the behaviour is unwarranted and awards the student with an opportunity to rectify their behaviour. The same will apply if the student again displays poor behaviour. At the third warning, a student will receive a 20 minute detention to be served on the following day. An 'On Call' will be issued in cases where negative behaviour continues to persist and, in such cases, the student will be removed from their lessons. The teacher will call home to discuss the behaviour with parents/carers and the student will be placed into a 40-minute detention the following school day with a member of the academy's leadership team. Negative behaviours will be linked to a negative points value. The severity of behaviours is represented by the points associated with them, as the seriousness increases, so does the value of the negative points. Additionally, when a behaviour falls below a threshold category that is attached to -5 or more negative points, a sanction will be served.
Consequences - The academy's behaviour system is designed to encourage students to avoid escalating the situations where standards have fallen below the expectation. It provides time for a student to reflect on their behaviour in order to modify and make better choices going forward. Staff will always seek to delivery consequences in a measured and calm manner.
School Trips & Enrichment
School trips form an important part of academy life and are often the most memorable when we look back on our school days.
Trips to art galleries, museums, theatre, are regularly organised to enrich students’ cultural experience and support learning in the classroom. The Academy ensures that no students’ learning is disadvantaged and applications for financial support for trips linked to
the curriculum should be made to our finance department.
Residential trips to Europe and the USA are organised. The trips page on our website is regularly updated with planned trips and gives
details on the date, cost and payment schedule to help families budget.
All trips and enrichments are subject to current Government guidelines.
Lunch-time and After-school Clubs
Staff offer a wide range of lunchtime and after-school clubs to cater for all tastes: music, choir, sports, debating, film, games.
