We would like all our students to complete the A4 worksheet called 'This is me' and bring it on their first day of school. This will help us all to get to know you better but also, each student will have the opportunity to present this to their tutor group as part of our Academy focus on developing Oracy for all students. Please remember that all families are different and lots of us live with different people. We want you to be proud about where you come from and at Stationers' Crown Woods Academy, we pride ourselves for being inclusive. We accept and embrace each other's differences! Just remember not to put any personal information such as your home address and for your birthday, just the day and month will be enough, not the year. If you do not have a printer at home, don't worry, we will have copies available on Year 6 Induction Day, just ask a member of staff.
The projects listed below are things you can get on with in the summer months, before you join our academy. Whilst they are optional, our Heads of School and subject Directors of Learning would love you to share this work with them when you join us in September. All you need is a pen and a piece of paper! Remember to put your name at the back of every sheet and get working!
Chose a famous book author. It can be your own or from the books listed above. Research the author. What can you tell me about them? What are their other books? Who are similar authors? Why did you chose them? Read one of their books then write a review.
Research three inventions created by inventors and scientists around the world. One of these inventions need to have been created on the year you were born. The second invention should have been created in the 1980s and the last invention in the 1990s. Write a description about what the three inventions are and the impact that each of the inventions have had on modern life or how they have changed the way we live.
The Industrial Revolution in Britain took place between 1760 and 1830. Find out about what happened in this period of History. You can watch lots of documentaries on YouTube about this. Write a brief description about it and find out how people lived during that period? How was school like? What clothes did people wear? What music did people listen to?
Think about a book you have read recently or your most favourite book ever. On a blank sheet of A4 paper and using a pencil or a pen, create a 'Book Jacket'. This is the paper cover a hardback book has with the title and artwork for the front of the book, including the author's name and then a short summary of what the book is about on the back and some artwork for the back. We are going to use these sleeves for a display board at school, so if you can, use colours and make it pop!
Create a 30 minute work out plan for Joe Wicks. You are directing his show and you need to give him a list of exercises you want him to include in his daily show. Next to the exercises, specify how the movements need to be completed safely or modified for an elderly person. For example:
'10 jumping jacks - Stretch your arms and jump high and wide. If you are injured or elderly, you can do them without jumping up'.
Who is your favourite artist? or musical band or group? Why do you like them? What is your favourite song by them? Why do you like that song? Write a short letter to our Academy Principal, to convince him that your chosen artist is the best artist in the world. You might want to include facts about this singer or band and refer to the lyrics of their songs to show why he should give them a try! You should listen to music whilst you are doing this task (not too loud!) and have a little dance too!
Watch a film with your grown ups at home. After the movie, write a review of the movie you have all watched, including information about the plot, the characters, the setting of the film and other details you found important. Give your opinion on why others should/ should not watch this film and give it a rating out of 5 stars according to how good you thought it was.
Check that you know your multiplication tables. Try to recite them off the top of your head without looking. If you cannot do it/ get many of them wrong, try to recite them every day, focusing on one number a week until you learn them all.
