“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”
This year has been one of the strangest I have ever known in all my working life. It started with our new year 7s. Many had not even seen the school physically apart from online which meant that many students were struggling emotionally to connect with the school. Then came all the uncertainty of some classes being sent home due to Covid infections which added to the anxiety. The bitterness of a cancelled Christmas was too much for some individuals to bear. However, life has slowly started to return to some normality.
Despite all of the negatives, most of the young people that I have interacted with, remain resilient to all the changes and have started to accept it is the ‘new normal’ that we all have to live with. Steve Maraboli, a life-changing speaker, says, "Life doesn't get easier, you just get stronger" which I fully believe to be valid. Covid is not going away but we are learning to make the best of the situation!
We all need to accept the changes in life and learn from them and become stronger for them. Sometimes we want to witness big changes in life but then we become disappointed when these changes don't happen. Rather, we should strive to accept the smaller ones, like walks in the countryside and listening to the birds singing to help us to feel more positive during challenging times.
So as I conclude my article, the sun is out, the sky is blue (and yes I will complain it is too hot) but I feel very lucky that I am able to enjoy life.
In this modern world we all live in, my advice is to turn off your mobile and your devices and learn to enjoy the simple things in life which are all around us if we look and listen.
Have a great summer and stay safe!

Our ‘Middle Years Programme (MYP) Easter Wellbeing Day’ saw over 100 students come in and partake in a range of activities which included: a climbing wall with inflatable obstacle course, a crystal maze, product design workshops / activities, special effects using prosthetics and our very first MYP bake off! The students had a magnificent day and thoroughly enjoyed all these amazing wellbeing activities.
The day was a huge success with 100% of our students saying that they had an exciting time and would love to do it again!
We are very proud of our student engagement and look forward to the next event to celebrate wellbeing at our academy.
