“Success is the progressive realisation of a worthy goal.” ― Earl Nightingale
Yesterday saw our students at Wilmington Academy achieve a truly stunning set of IB Diploma Subject results. We are beyond proud of the resilience, excellence, and continued determination both our students and staff have shown under challenging circumstances. Our results continue to show an increasingly positive trajectory, with our average grade being 5.76 (the equivalent of a Grade B+). Here are a few highlights of our results:
All Reflective Project students achieved the highest mark (Grade A).
8 students achieved Grade 7s (the equivalent to a Grade A*) in Business Management, English, IT in the Global Society, Math, and Film Studies.
95% of all students achieved Grades 7-5 (A*-C).
Our Value Added score is 1.12.
Once again, well done to all for overcoming and excelling. Here are some quotes and pictures from students when they collected their results:
“Everyone in Wilmington was very supportive and I am very glad I attended this sixth form. I am also very grateful for the teachers I had. They were the best and I couldn’t have asked for more.”
“I had an amazing time coming to Wilmington. I felt very welcomed and especially coming from a different school and not knowing many people. Thank you for all your support and effort.”
“I have come out of this place a person who is far more confident in their own abilities. I have gained great friends and an amazing support system!”
“Thank you Wilmington for everything!
And thank you Post 16 for all of your work through Covid to still help us get the best results possible!”
The IB Careers Programme Core subjects continue to learn about culture and to engage in the community. This module, Y12 Core students made a traditional Portuguese meal and worked their way through a Portuguese City in Language Development. In Personal and Professional Skills, students had the chance to participate in a virtual Epistemic Learning workshop, problem solving solutions to Climate Change and discussing the ethics of “Saviour Siblings''. In Service Learning, one group arranged a Fun Run for Year 7 students, which fundraised over £70 for Crisis, a charity for homelessness. The other group organised a plastics-pick-up at Brighton Beach, working to help prevent plastics from entering the ocean. All the students in IB Core this year have developed leadership and communication skills, as well as being caring, principled individuals!
It was fantastic to welcome Year 11 students back into the academy for their first taste of Post 16 during our Summer Transition Programme. Our induction which took place over the course of three days in June, saw students have the opportunity to sample Post 16 lessons, experience our personalised and wraparound pastoral support, as well as take part in an interactive skills development day.
“Attending the sixth form induction has confirmed my decision to enrol here in September. I found the environment really engaging and supportive, something which is missing at my current school.” - Luke.
